The surgeon and anesthesiologist just came to talk with us. They were both very happy with how she did. The only problem they are having is that her heart rate is too slow. Mostly due to swelling around the sinus node. They expect it to recover. She hasn't been on her propranolol (medicine to slow her heart rate) for 24 hours now. Hopefully that means she isn't going to need it anymore.
The surgeon said there was a lot of tissue in the pulmonary artery where the stent was. He had to do repair there. That was to be expected with the way her sats have been.
He said he opened up the heart and "looked around." The tricuspid valve is still very small. He doesn't see much hope there. I'm not giving up yet.
After using the bypass patients are usually quite swollen and they come back with the chest open. Like last time, he was able to close her up.
He is very happy with how the Glenn looks. He said she is going to look a little more pink having had it done, but since she is still circulating blue blood she will still look blue.
They aren't giving her drugs to wake her up. He wants her to wake up slow. They told us we should be seeing her within the hour....sigh....still trying to prepare for that.
Where to even start

Be strong, it is no fun seeing them after, but at the same time sooooo relieving! I didn't even cry. I kept telling my family i'm a heartless B**** but for some reason i felt such peace and relief that it didn't bother me too much to see her. Good luck :) Thanks for all the updates!!

ReplyDeleteWe have been praying for you and your family. It was a year ago today that Ellie had her first heart surgery. I am so glad that things went well! Cute scrubs!
